Sydney – Des, Debra, Megs and New Year’s madness…

Sydney is a class city…is it better than Melbourne..?..or is Melbourne better than Sydney..?..will we ever know the answer to that controversial question..??..personally I don’t think you can compare the two at all – they are just very different places, but both great. Anyway, I had a brilliant time in Sydney with my uncle and aunt Des and Debra – got guided tours round the city for a few days in Des’s convertible (personally I’d rather have my peugeot..), got fed and looked after superbly (thanks guys), and was also introduced to the madness that is Megs!! (Debra’s niece – fantastic girl, couple of great nights out, and I even introduced her to Liverpool FC as we watched the 5 – 1 trouncing of Newcastle in the pub!!).

Now I know Pete let the Harrison boys down when he was in Sydney by getting beaten by Des at snooker, but you will be pleased to hear Pete that I have restored a bit of pride to the camp with a great team comeback – me and Debra against Des and Megs at pool…3 – 0 down only to turn on the style and win 4 games in a row to make it 4 – 3. I still don’t think Megs has quite come to terms with the defeat yet, poor girl…just remember Megs – play to the final whistle – it ain’t over til it’s over!! ;o)

Des and Megs looking smug at 3 – 0…

There really are a lot of things to see in Sydney but for some reason I didn’t take that many photos…Sydney for me was basically the bridge, the harbour, the opera house…and of course all culminating in the fireworks at said locations..!!

Sydney Harbour Bridge – awesome!

I should say at this point that I haven’t actually done my walk over the bridge yet because I was too late in booking it…apparently at the most popular time of the year you have to book more than two days in advance…!?…I wasn’t sure of my plans at the time so wasn’t able to book in advance…I will be in Sydney at some stage again though – WITH PETE (no excuse brother – you, Megs and I have to have our ‘night of obliteration’ in Sydney..!!..) so will do the bridge walkover then…

Sydney Harbour viewed from the bridge…how cool is that..??

So anyway, onto New Years Eve..!!…yadayadayada, Sydney on NYE I hear you say – can’t be all it’s cracked up to be…just a fireworks display…well I have one word for you…..NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…it was brilliant…!!….I had arranged to meet Sal and the three German girls, Sabiha, Elisa and Caroline and we all had tickets to a club called the Argyle which is right down in the Rocks area near the bridge…but if we wanted to get a good spot for the fireworks we were told we’d need to go down and claim it in the afternoon…so from 2 in the afternoon we sat around on the grass beneath the bridge drinking beer as the crowds gathered…and basically continued from there…anyway, I’ll let a few photos do the talking…

P1010775

We were sitting on this grass bank…the bridge you can just see top right…

P1010776

The view from our position…yes people – that IS the bridge the fireworks were going mental from at 12..!!

P1010795

Mum, remember when I texted you to say a plane told me to call you..?..it wasn’t just drunk talk..!! :o )

P1010799

Getting dark…the bridge towers lit up with all sorts of images…brilliant looking…

P1010800

Sydney 2008…I was there…

P1010809

Loads of boats kept coming into the harbour with funky lights…I obviously liked this one..!!..

P1010811

Elisa, Sabiha, Me, Sal…

P1010831

The countdown is on…!!…

P1010825

BOOM BOOM WEEEEE AAAWWWW AAAAHHHH…etc etc etc…as well as this, just to the right was the Opera House with more fireworks and lots of other places with fireworks going off left right and centre…

After the fireworks we then headed back to the Argyle for a big long night of fun and frolics…I’d love to tell you all about it but it’s all a bit foggy…I mean, apparently I was dancing like a lunatic all night and talking to random people about all sorts, probably counting fish…rumour has it I even had an encounter with a guy on the street with an interesting haircut on the way home …but I reckon you can do anything with photoshop these days…!?…

  5. mum

First of all….to LP….Andrew is ” mummy’s special SOLDIER” not BOY!!!!
Andrew I really thought you had gone crazy or were really drunk when you texted me about an aeroplane talking to you!!! Well what would any mother think! So you can imagine how happy and relieved I was to see the writing in the sky. By the way I do agree with Ricky, he does look like a girl! Glad you had a good birthday. You’re a big boy now….So be good x

  6. Des

Andy, it was Debra and my pleasure to have you spend time with us – slight problem with your car preferences, but then again you are a “Harrison” and not a “Kennedy” – as you pointed out to me on numerous occasions..!! We had to let you win at the pool – the Harrisons would never have lived it down..!! Cheers, Des
