Before I start I must warn you – I might be a little bit jumpy…I’ve just had a kangaroo fillet for lunch…
So…here I am in Perth…the turkey has landed…I say this because I do feel like I have been lightly basted and am slowly cooking…it is pretty hot…and I’m sure it will get hotter..!!..I’m sure you can empathise…
I arrived at my hostel in Perth late last night (about 1am) after over 20 hours on 3 planes…I don’t like flying at the best of times…and I imagined I would be stuck beside someone either really fat, or really smell, or with a screaming kid…or all three…turned out I was sitting beside a lovely girl called Tracy from Ballyshannon who is moving to Perth to study nursing…and live with her boyfriend (before you ask!)…so that helped pass (some of) the time…I’ll hopefully catch up with her at some stage later on…
I was pretty knackered so planned to just get some sleep…and in my mixed 4-bed dorm there was already a guy sleeping who had also just arrrived so I quietly got sorted and into bed…then another Italian guy arrived back shortly after and he too went to bed…pretty uneventful, and I thought at least I’ll catch up on some sleep…that is until the fourth and final person came back to complete the jigsaw…a Swiss girl who was sleeping below me (in bunk beds!) who after being put to bed by her friend promptly proceeded to violently throw up all over the floor!!..well anyway..an hour’s cleaning/nursing, a lot of cleaning, and a chance to meet my fellow room mates later and it was all sorted…not the circumstances I imagined meeting my first room mates, but hey…an Italian, a Swiss and an Irishman discussing the best way to clean up vomit…
So anyway – Perth…this will be brief as I’ve just spent the day wandering about without any real purpose…and I want to go to the pub…
It’s a bit weird seeing Christmas decorations with blue skies and scorching sunshine and everyone walking about in flip-flops, but I think I could get used to it actually…
Christmas trees in summertime
From the one day I have wandered about here I really do like it – everything is really clean and…sunny..!!..ok, maybe the sun plays a big part, but apart from the sun it is pretty cool – lots of modern looking buildings in the commercial sector which look quite cool against the blue sky..and lots of parks..!!..I was walking through the park in the photo below when 2 parrots flew overhead – there are loads of them..proper parrots – like the multicoloured ones you see in the zoo…I don’t know the name of the – they don’t swim after all (not that I know of anyway..!?)…
Cool buildings, blue sky and parks…
I walked down along the Swan River which runs through Perth…it reminded me a bit of the Marine Gardens in Carrick…except much bigger…a lot sunnier…and not full of spides…there was a polo tournament on which was a bit random so I lay about and watched that for a bit…tried to get some photos…not very successfully…it was actually pretty entertaining – not exactly Stevie G hitting one in from 30 yards entertaining, but entertaining nonetheless!
One for the horsey fans…
Anyway, time is running out in this (crappy) internet cafe so I’ll love you and leave you…bit of a boring first blog eh, but I haven’t really done anything yet and it’s really just to let you know I’ve arrived safely – I know yous all worry..!!
)
Right…I heard there’s a pub with beer in it somewhere…I just need to find it…

Skippy meat is beautiful and glad you didn’t wait too long to try – “croc” is next on your list…!! Lorikeets is the name of the birds you are referring to – we used to have a bunch of then on the verandah when I last lived in Sydney – lots of bird life here (of both classes – I only know about the female variety cause someone told me..). Lovely in sYdney today – driving up to Blue Mountains for a drive (with the top down of course). Have fun me lad….!! See ya soonest…. Cheers, Des

can’t believe the first entry i read on your blog involves a vomit story – i am traumatised! perhaps we should institute some kind of advance vomit warning system in future?
on a more pleasant note, am now having lovely flashbacks to the scorching heat of perth in december (although it did get a little irritating to have to slap on the factor 35 every time i left the hostel…) – glad you got there safely.

Glad you had company on your long journey! Why did you mention the boyfriend? I didn’t think that mattered much to you – more of a challenge I would have thought
Anyway as your mum I feel that I need to advise you to slap plenty of sun cream on!!!! I know you tan easily but you are in Australia, not France! in case you hadn’t noticed
Take care x
